We are reaching the end of 2022, which means the deadline of 3G networks is coming upon us. What is the 3G sunset and what significance does this have for your alarm systems, you may ask?
Many of the largest wireless carriers in the country will shut down their 3G networks by the end of this year. 3G networks are retiring to make space and free up bandwidth for faster signals. All communicators and cellular devices based on the Verizon 3G networks will no longer have a connection at the end of December when this happens.
Without a 3G connection, alarm panels not yet converted to 4G/LTE or 5G networks can no longer communicate with the central station. This applies to all monitored systems. In the event of an emergency, the central station will not receive a signal if they are only sent by cellular. This would result in the central station not knowing to call the authorities in an emergency.
If you have a 3G network device, it is crucial to convert the network to 4G/LTE or 5G before the 3G sunset which will be happening over the next month.
AFA can update your fire or security system to the proper network to keep communication signals running smoothly.
