Protect your building using advanced alarm signal transmission methods for a more reliable, secure and cost-effective central station monitoring service.

POTS (Plain old telephone service) lines are becoming extinct. If you are currently using POTS lines, your signal will eventually not be transmitted. AFA encourages all central station subscribers to switch to more modern alarm signal communication methods.

IP (internet protocol) and digital cellular will provide faster and more reliable connectivity to send signals from your premise to our central station monitoring facilities. Switching from POTS to IP and/or Digital Cellular will also save you money by no longer needing to pay the “phone company” for your dedicated phone lines.
It is important to know how many ways the new technologies can benefit you:

SAVE MONEY

Traditional digital communicators require two dedicated POTS lines which cost approximately $80-$120 per month. Using Internet and cellular connections can save you almost the entire monthly cost by eliminating your phone lines.

PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE

Traditional copper phone lines (POTS) are becoming extinct. The FCC currently indicates that the end of POTS lines will happen during the next few years. Switching will keep your alarm system’s transmission capabilities current and compatible with rapidly changing telecommunication trends.

SECURITY

IP and digital cellular technology can check in with our central station every 5 minutes, alerting AFA that the system is working properly. POTS lines send a signal only once every 6 or 24 hours, depending on the local Code. POTS lines users could have their systems be down for hours without the central monitoring facility knowing.

REDUNDANCY

Having two communication methods and two independent paths (IP & digital cellular) makes transmission failures less likely than one transmission method (POTS).

FASTER

Internet and Cellular service communicates immediately to our central station. Regular phone lines can take anywhere over 20-30 seconds to transmit a signal.
